Synthesis of hierarchically porous polymethylsilsesquioxane monoliths with controlled mesopores for HPLC separation
Solgel synthesis of macroporous polymethylsilsesquioxane (PMSQ) monoliths has been successful over the past decade, and applications to separation media have been investigated. However, the control of mesopores to tailor hierarchical porosity, which is promising for improvement of the separation efficiency, remains challenging. In particular, an independent control of mesoand macropores has no...
متن کاملPhase and microphase separation in polymer blends
When two different polymers are mixed, they usually demix because of the slight repulsive interaction that exists between their monomers. This is general and may be related to phase separation in two component mixtures. When the same polymer blend is cross-linked in the one phase region, elastic forces develop and do not let this to occur. There results a microphase separation, with coexistence...
متن کاملMethacrylate Polymer Monoliths for Separation Applications
This review summarizes the development of methacrylate-based polymer monoliths for separation science applications. An introduction to monoliths is presented, followed by the preparation methods and characteristics specific to methacrylate monoliths. Both traditional chemical based syntheses and emerging additive manufacturing methods are presented along with an analysis of the different types ...
متن کاملHigh-pressure electroosmotic pumps based on porous polymer monoliths
Electroosmotic pumps have been prepared using macroporous polymer monoliths with their pore surface grafted with the ionizable monomers 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid and [2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethyl ammonium chloride, respectively. The effects of critical parameters such as pore size of the monolith, percentage of ionizable moieties in the grafted layer, crosslinking densi...
متن کاملMechanically stable, hierarchically porous Cu3(btc)2 (HKUST-1) monoliths via direct conversion of copper(II) hydroxide-based monoliths.
The synthesis of highly crystalline macro-meso-microporous monolithic Cu3(btc)2 (HKUST-1; btc(3-) = benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate) is demonstrated by direct conversion of Cu(OH)2-based monoliths while preserving the characteristic macroporous structure. The high mechanical strength of the monoliths is promising for possible applications to continuous flow reactors.
